  Melanoma Warning Signs

Any unusual mole, sore, or lump, changeing  or looking unusual , like failing to heal may  be a sign, of melanoma or  skin cancer.  In 2008 a month prior to being diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma, I experienced a burning, pulling sensation underneath the skin.  There was no visable problem on the surface, and it occured in an area where the sun doesnt shine. It wasnt  a progression of a mole. When the sore developed a couple weeks after the irritation, it then radidly got worse and worse.

Sign- Asymmetry:

Part of a mole or sore does not match the other.

Sign- Border:

The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred.

Sign- Color:

The color is splotchy and may include different shades of brown or black as it progresses to Stage 3-4. It can also have sections pink, red, white, or blue.

Sign-Evolving:

The mole is changing in size, shape, or color.

Other signs and symptoms:
  • A sore that doesn’t heal.  It apears to get better than returns an persists enlarging each time.  It can burn underneath the skin, with a tingling sensation.
  • Spread of pigment from the border of a spot into surrounding skin This stage can progress rapidly and be missed.
  • Redness or a new swelling beyond the border of the mole or sore.  This stage can progress rapidly.
  • Change in the surface of a mole or sore – scaliness, oozing, bleeding, or the appearance of a lump , bump, or hardened area.
  • Black areas hardened in part or total sore area. This is unlike a scab, relitively thin on the surface, but deep and very painful when touched, bumped or moved.
